The Dream Fund is a registered Canadian charity that makes dreams come true for sick kids all over Newfoundland & Labrador. Started by William Short of Marystown at the age of 14, The Dream Fund (formerly the Short Circuit Dream Fund) was designed to make a difference — if only small — in the lives of sick children across Newfoundland & Labrador. Now in operation for over seven years, we’ve changed the lives of more than 25 families in ways we never thought possible.

The Froude Avenue Community Centre is a facility that is dedicated to providing opportunities and resources for people of all ages and backgrounds, by developing diverse programs and services that encourages citizen involvement and a strong active community while striving to promote the social, cultural, and healthy lifestyles of its residents and visitors. The idea for the community centre began when Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (N.L.H.C) initiated a Tenents Relations Program in July 1983, in an attempt to increase and improve communications between the tenants of non-profit housing and the landlord, N.L.H.C. The thrust of this program was, and still is, to encourage the tenants in different housing projects to become more involved in their community. In effort to meet the above noted objectives, staff of the Tenants Relations Division developed a proposal and submitted it to Canada Mortgage and Housing corporation and the St.John's City Council for a community centre to open at 87-89 Froude Avenue. Since the successful opening of this centre in May 1985, four other centres have been opened: Rabbittown Community Centre (Graves Street); Virginia Park Community Centre (Harding Road); Buckmaster's Circle Community Centre (Navy Street) and MacMorran Community Centre (Brophy Place). The mission of Froude Avenue Community Centre is: * to encourage the involvement of tenants in their housing projects through the use of programs and activities implemented through the centre; * to create a positive atmosphere, community spirit and co-operation; * to help develop a better social environment by providing recreational, educational and social programs, as well as training and referrals.

Community Volunteers Wanted! Become a CVITP Volunteer! Volunteers are needed to help file simple income tax returns for eligible people in your community, on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). If you have a basic understanding of income tax and are interested in helping out your community, come Lend a Hand! The CRA will support you by providing training and free tax preparation software. The registration period to become a volunteer is from October through February. As a volunteer with the CVITP you will give back to your community by helping individuals receive their benefits and credits. You will increase your personal tax knowledge, gain new skills and improving existing ones, all while doing work that is valued and recognized. Our Origins Founded in 2006, FTLOL quickly gained a steady footing alongside established community partners. FTLOL is recognized within the community as an ambitious, arts-based empowerment and skill-building program which seeks out and values collaboration with its community partners. How we’re changing the world Working at street level to engage youth and identify their needs, FTLOL uses non-traditional. arts-based program offerings to enhance creativity and communication skills amongst youth who have lost faith in conventional learning methods. FTLOL provides a safe and productive learning environment with an overall spirit of fun, expression and achievement. Serving youth are at the core of every action and reaction of the organization. Free, full-time programming, developed in consultation with youth and experts in art, education, and the health sector, is offered to youth at the drop-in center in St. John's. We also showcase the work of our clients and bring awareness to our organization and youth issues by bringing youth-written, FTLOL-produced theatre productions to towns all throughout the province. The training and experience of the staff allow an ambitious schedule of projects to be completed, while the organizational structure permits flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of its clientele.

The Chalker Place Neighborhood Centre is a volunteer-run community organization affiliated with Vibrant Communities and Newfoundland and Labrador Housing. The purpose of the organization is to enhance the lives of families living in social housing in the community through the organization and delivery of programs and activities for community residents

Supported by Canadian Heritage, the YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange is a national six-week work and language exchange program providing 16-17 year old youth with the opportunity to improve their second official language skills, gain employment experience through a paid work placement and participate in cultural activities on the weekends. Youth from Northeast Avalon participate in Quebec, work at a non-profit and live with a host family while a group of youth will come to complete the exchange in Northeast Avalon. As the exchange is reciprocal, hosts are required in Northeast Avalon for incoming Quebec youth so that Northeast Avalon youth can go. We are currently accepting applications for participants/hosts families in Northeast Avalon. Connections for Seniors is a non-profit organization located in St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador. We provide emergency accommodations and services to adults 55 years of age and older. Our goal is to promote dignity and self-efficacy while helping seniors navigate complex systems linked to health, housing, legal and financial matters that ultimately impact quality of life. Our emergency accommodations and main office are located in a residential area. We provide individual rooms equipped with televisions. We have on-site laundry, as well as access to telephone and internet. We offer acute, crisis-based counselling support as well as nursing services. We provide transportation related to health and housing needs. We pick up clients from their desired location within the St. John's Metro area with the hope that they will feel welcome and supported.

Program Description: Next Stop Canada Youth (NSCY) is a program that provides online settlement support, learning opportunities, and mentorship to pre-arrival youth ages 12 to 19 who are destined for Canada. This online program helps overseas youth prepare for immigration by providing them with the information, knowledge, and resources needed to quickly adapt and integrate into Canadian society. *This position is entirely online.

Saint Luke’s Community Living is owned and operated by Anglican Homes Incorporated, a not-for-profit organization. Through our four locations in the Waterford Valley of St. John’s – Saint Luke’s Long Term Care Home, the Cottages, Bishop Meaden Manor, and Babb Manor – we strive to provide a long-term continuum of care to meet the individual needs of seniors and their families. In addition to live in services, St. Luke’s also provide an Adult Day Program. The Adult Day Program is the only regional program of its kind. It provides social/recreational programming for seniors living in the community who have limited access to such resources due to physical, cognitive or social barriers. A key aspect to the provision of these services is access to bussing services. The current bus has reached the end of it’s service life and we have started our fund raising campaign “We Don’t Want to Make a Fuss – We Just Want a New Bus”.
