Opportunity Description:

Purpose: To raise awareness of the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) and empower people affected by, living with or at risk for diabetes in their self-management, through the facilitation of small group workshops, presentations and community displays, using CDA workshop/presentation modules and display materials.
• Facilitate diabetes self-management Workshops and presentations in a variety of settings (i.e. workplaces, community groups) using the Your Roadmap to Wellness Facilitator Guide and Canadian Diabetes Association presentation modules
• Represent the CDA and engage with participants at community & workplace health displays
• Work with CDA office to coordinate pick-up and delivery of workshop/presentation/display materials
• Collect evaluation forms from participants and complete your own evaluation/information form each workshop, presentation or display
• Attend CDA trainings
• Adhere to CDA policies, including the Direct Healthcare Advice Policy
• Facilitate a minimum of 2 workshops/presentations per year

Desirable Attributes and Skills:
• Demonstrated group facilitation skills
• Public speaking skills
• Ability to travel within Sydney and surrounding location and transporting equipment and supplies (i.e. handouts, LCD projector, laptop etc.)
• Experience using a laptop and/ or LCD projector with PowerPoint presentations
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Understanding of diabetes and self-management support
• Reliable and ability to follow through with commitments
Support/Training Available:
• Orientation to the Canadian Diabetes Association, including Direct Healthcare Advice Policy
• Learning Series and Your Roadmap to Wellness Facilitator’s Guide
• Support from CDA staff lead
Time Commitment
• 1 year- minimum of 2 workshops/presentations per year
• Daytime availability
