Opportunity Description:
Volunteer Position Title: Family Support Group Facilitator
Volunteer: Looking for someone with a background in healthcare, social work, mental health or another related field.
Commitment: 2 hours/month for a minimum of 1 year

 

We are looking for a volunteer to fill the position of Family Support Group Facilitator at our Provincial Office in St. John’s. Candidate will be starting as soon as possible.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Volunteer

On a monthly basis, the Family Support Group Facilitator engages a group of caregivers and family members in a discussion regarding how their lives have been affected by dementia. During this discussion, the Family Support Group Facilitator aims to provide information, direction, and support, where needed, while also encouraging all members to share openly and provide each other with mutual support. Ideally, the Family Support Group Facilitator is someone who possesses empathy, strong listening skills, effective communication skills, and an ability to separate personal needs from group needs. The Family Support Group Facilitator is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe environment where participants’ thoughts and feelings are valued and group members are treated with fairness, equity, and respect.

  • Knowledge of other related dementias
