Easter Seals NL's Run, Walk, Stroll, and Roll: DASH FOR DONUTS is happening June 24th (June 25th is our backup rain date!) from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Bowring Park. Choose to run, walk, stroll or roll around the 2 KM loop or the 5 KM loop, and receive a donut at the finish line to celebrate! We will also have a BBQ and live entertainment during the event. Home Again.  Two simple words.  But establishing a home isn’t always simple.  For those in transition from situations of abuse, homelessness, prison or war, for the un and under-employed or for those with disabilities, the struggle to create a new life is just starting. Part of this struggle involves establishing a home. For those lacking the means or social connections to make that happen, Home Again Furniture Bank can assist. Home Again Furniture Bank is a nonprofit organization that provides gently-used furniture and household items to individuals and families in need. Based in St. John's, Home Again works through a referral system of local agencies to ensure that everyone has a bed to sleep in. Central to Home Again is a cycle of giving and receiving that provides our most vulnerable citizens the means to create a home. In providing furniture, Home Again also helps to empower individuals and families as they rebuild their lives.  Getting a good night sleep on a proper bed makes moving forward seem feasible. Having a sofa to relax on with family makes life more enjoyable.  Being able to offer family and friends a chair to sit on, or a table to gather around, brings dignity and pride.   Home Again helps to build pride in homes and pride in our community.  Home Again is an eco-friendly charity.  Not only does our program help families, but we also provide a positive ecological impact as we divert furniture and home furnishings destined for local landfills.

Our Centre has been in operation since July 17, 1987, and was opened by The Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation. The main focus of the Virginia Park Community Centre was, and continues to be, to provide Social, Educational, Recreational as well as Career Development programs and services for the residents of Virginia Park. Program development is based on the needs of Tenants living in the 202 NLHC units of the Virginia Park area, with programs and services available for everyone from prenatal to senior citizens. Purpose The purpose of the Centres are as follows: - To encourage the involvement of Tenants in their Housing projects through the use of programs and activities implemented through the community Centre. - To create a positive atmosphere, community spirit, and co-operation. - To help develop a better social environment by providing recreational, educational and social programs, as well as training and referrals.

The Dream Fund is a registered Canadian charity that makes dreams come true for sick kids all over Newfoundland & Labrador. Started by William Short of Marystown at the age of 14, The Dream Fund (formerly the Short Circuit Dream Fund) was designed to make a difference — if only small — in the lives of sick children across Newfoundland & Labrador. Now in operation for over seven years, we’ve changed the lives of more than 25 families in ways we never thought possible.

The Froude Avenue Community Centre is a facility that is dedicated to providing opportunities and resources for people of all ages and backgrounds, by developing diverse programs and services that encourages citizen involvement and a strong active community while striving to promote the social, cultural, and healthy lifestyles of its residents and visitors. The idea for the community centre began when Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation (N.L.H.C) initiated a Tenents Relations Program in July 1983, in an attempt to increase and improve communications between the tenants of non-profit housing and the landlord, N.L.H.C. The thrust of this program was, and still is, to encourage the tenants in different housing projects to become more involved in their community. In effort to meet the above noted objectives, staff of the Tenants Relations Division developed a proposal and submitted it to Canada Mortgage and Housing corporation and the St.John's City Council for a community centre to open at 87-89 Froude Avenue. Since the successful opening of this centre in May 1985, four other centres have been opened: Rabbittown Community Centre (Graves Street); Virginia Park Community Centre (Harding Road); Buckmaster's Circle Community Centre (Navy Street) and MacMorran Community Centre (Brophy Place). The mission of Froude Avenue Community Centre is: * to encourage the involvement of tenants in their housing projects through the use of programs and activities implemented through the centre; * to create a positive atmosphere, community spirit and co-operation; * to help develop a better social environment by providing recreational, educational and social programs, as well as training and referrals.

Community Volunteers Wanted! Become a CVITP Volunteer! Volunteers are needed to help file simple income tax returns for eligible people in your community, on behalf of the Canada Revenue Agency’s Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP). If you have a basic understanding of income tax and are interested in helping out your community, come Lend a Hand! The CRA will support you by providing training and free tax preparation software. The registration period to become a volunteer is from October through February. As a volunteer with the CVITP you will give back to your community by helping individuals receive their benefits and credits. You will increase your personal tax knowledge, gain new skills and improving existing ones, all while doing work that is valued and recognized.
