The St. John’s Youth Justice Committee is a volunteer program responsible for facilitating extrajudicial sanctions (EJS) for the youth of St. John’s Metro region. EJS is a restorative justice program authorized under the Youth Criminal Justice Act to provide alternatives to the court system for young people who experience conflict with the law between their 12th and 18th birthday. Volunteers are responsible for screening files for suitability, participating in mediation and diversion, community development, working close with young people and social justice. The Program is under the umbrella of Youth Corrections with Children Seniors Social Development. We hope that through our process victims are empowered and young people are able to restore back to the community what was broken.
