Special Olympics is composed of passionate, committed individuals from every walk of life, who recognise the value and unique gifts of people with intellectual disabilities. And, who together, share the common belief of dignity, equality and opportunity for all people. Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador is a non-profit organization serving individuals with an intellectual disability, with a presence across the province. We are constantly expanding to add new programs in every part of the province. In the years since Special Olympics was brought to Newfoundland and Labrador, Special Olympics has been supported by a who’s who of outstanding leaders in the fields of sports, education, business, government and disability advocacy. They serve on the Provincial Board of Directors, give financial and political support, act as spokespeople, help build awareness, and establish connections with important organizations and the government. Under the Board’s guidance and the guidance of Special Olympics leaders, our provincial family of grass-roots volunteers, athletes, family and staff work tirelessly to ensure a quality sports experience for Special Olympics athletes and an accepting community for their families. Every day, talented volunteers and staff work to bring our sports programs to as many places as possible. We work so that we may realize Special Olympics ultimate vision: to improve the lives of people with intellectual disabilities everywhere, and, in turn, transform the lives of everyone they touch – building a better, more accepting world for all of us.

The East Coast Trail Association is a registered charity established to provide a wilderness hiking experience by developing and maintaining the East Coast Trail, promoting public access, minimizing its impact on the natural environment and protecting it for future generations.

Challenger Baseball is an adaptive baseball program designed to empower children and youth living with cognitive and/or physical disabilities. The program teaches children and youth the core life skills inherent to baseball, including: teamwork, communication, determination, resiliency, inclusion, support and courage. Challenger Baseball ensures every participant has the opportunity to play in a fun and safe environment where they learn to become more independent, build confidence and self-esteem, improve their communication skills, and set and achieve their own personal goals.

What is ultimate? Since its creation in the late 60s, ultimate has gained worldwide recognition as a fast-paced, low-cost sport that emphasizes sportsmanship through Spirit of the Game. It’s easy to learn, requires little equipment and can easily be played in any open space. The basic skills of the game – throwing, catching, running and jumping – make for an easy transition for athletes from other sports, both team and individual. Ultimate is a self-refereed sport with the onus on each player to ensure that other players and themselves are acting within the rules and abiding by the ideals of fair play and Spirit of the Game. It’s built on the understanding of respect for all players on the field and that fair play is essential in creating an enjoyable playing experience. What is Ultimate Newfoundland and Labrador (Ultimate NL)? Ultimate NL is the provincial sports organization for ultimate frisbee in Newfoundland and Labrador. A not-for-profit organization that’s governed by a volunteer board of directors, its mandate is to grow the sport of ultimate throughout the province.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Athletics Association (NLAA) is the sole governing body in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador for the sport of Athletics. We organize events for Cross-Country, Track & Field, and Road Races for people of all ages and athletic abilities.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - NLAA NEEDS VOLUNTEERS FOR XC SERIES FOR SCHOOLS Do you need volunteer hours, or an excuse to get out of the house on a Saturday morning? Volunteering with NLAA is a fun way to earn your volunteer hours, while learning new skills, meeting new friends, and giving back to the community. No previous experience necessary. Football Newfoundland and Labrador (FNL) is the provincial governing body for all forms of football—tackle, touch, and flag—across Newfoundland and Labrador. Its mission is to foster the growth and development of football at all levels, from grassroots to high performance. FNL's objectives, as outlined in its Constitution and Bylaws, include: Youth Development: Providing an environment that supports the growth and development of football through regional co-ed youth programs. Program Management: Managing and operating FNL and its regional youth leagues in a non-profit manner. Provincial Oversight: Providing provincial oversight to affiliate leagues offering adult football programs. Athlete Development: Developing football athletes, coaches, and referees throughout the province through the creation of a Long Term Athlete Development plan. Policy Establishment: Establishing policies and procedures for the administration of football in the province.

Home Again.  Two simple words.  But establishing a home isn’t always simple.  For those in transition from situations of abuse, homelessness, prison or war, for the un and under-employed or for those with disabilities, the struggle to create a new life is just starting. Part of this struggle involves establishing a home. For those lacking the means or social connections to make that happen, Home Again Furniture Bank can assist. Home Again Furniture Bank is a nonprofit organization that provides gently-used furniture and household items to individuals and families in need. Based in St. John's, Home Again works through a referral system of local agencies to ensure that everyone has a bed to sleep in. Central to Home Again is a cycle of giving and receiving that provides our most vulnerable citizens the means to create a home. In providing furniture, Home Again also helps to empower individuals and families as they rebuild their lives.  Getting a good night sleep on a proper bed makes moving forward seem feasible. Having a sofa to relax on with family makes life more enjoyable.  Being able to offer family and friends a chair to sit on, or a table to gather around, brings dignity and pride.   Home Again helps to build pride in homes and pride in our community.  Home Again is an eco-friendly charity.  Not only does our program help families, but we also provide a positive ecological impact as we divert furniture and home furnishings destined for local landfills.

Our Centre has been in operation since July 17, 1987, and was opened by The Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation. The main focus of the Virginia Park Community Centre was, and continues to be, to provide Social, Educational, Recreational as well as Career Development programs and services for the residents of Virginia Park. Program development is based on the needs of Tenants living in the 202 NLHC units of the Virginia Park area, with programs and services available for everyone from prenatal to senior citizens. Purpose The purpose of the Centres are as follows: - To encourage the involvement of Tenants in their Housing projects through the use of programs and activities implemented through the community Centre. - To create a positive atmosphere, community spirit, and co-operation. - To help develop a better social environment by providing recreational, educational and social programs, as well as training and referrals.
