Planning Committee Volunteer - BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk in Support of Kids Help Phone

Description: We are currently seeking volunteer committee support for Kids Help Phone’s national fundraising event, BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk, in St. John's. Support youth mental health and well-being in your community and across Canada, by volunteering as an event committee member for Kids Help Phone. About Kids Help Phone Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only free, 24/7, confidential e-mental health service offering support in English and French to young people through phone, text and online resources. Right now, youth in Canada are in crisis. One that affects us all. Help should not be hard to find. Young people can truly thrive when they’re able to express how they’re feeling – and get the support they need without judgment. At Kids Help Phone, we are grateful to our committed and courageous volunteers, who are essential to achieving our mission - ensuring every young person has the support they need, in the way they need it most.    Why Join an Event Planning Committee Volunteering your time to support the fundraising efforts of Kids Help Phone is both rewarding and creates a lasting impact on youth mental health across all of our communities.   If you’re interested in any of the following roles, our event committee may be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.   Event Committee Member Roles: Committee Chair: Are you a natural leader and motivator? Help oversee the committee to ensure the success of the event in all capacities.   Secretary: Attention to detail and organization are the key to keeping everyone on task and creating the best event experience for all event day participants, sponsors and volunteers.   Volunteer Lead: Help recruit and train the event day volunteers, to ensure they are set up for success.   Logistics Lead: Working alongside Kids Help Phone staff, this role will ensure all site logistics are in place and ready to go, this may include necessities such as tents, tables, stage, supplies, route markers, etc. Walk Route Lead: Identify the best walking route, while considering safety and ease of access. You will need to trouble shoot and address any route challenges that may occur, while ensuring all applicable permits and codes are attained and followed (along with the support of Kids Help Phone staff). Food & Beverage Lead: Organize onsite food and beverage distribution at the event and ensure all health and safety permits, codes and licenses are attained and followed. (I.e. Covid protocols). Sponsorship and Recognition Lead: Raising funds for Kids Help Phone’s 24/7 e-mental health services is the overall goal of our fundraising events. Help us stay open and accessible by leading the committee in sponsorship and participant recruitment efforts. Help to ensure our participants and sponsors feel supported and appreciated the whole way through, by staying connected with them, providing tips and celebrating their successes. Promotion and Recruitment Lead: Spread the word! Share details about the event by posting on community websites, social media pages, contributing to community partners and sponsors intranets or internal newsletters, working with local influencers and sourcing local media support.  Don’t forget about word of mouth!   Youth Representative: Creating a meaningful event for our youth audience is essential. As a youth facing organization, the Youth Representative will bring the perspective we need, in order to ensure everyone is represented in our event planning and execution efforts. Volunteer Shuttle Van Driver - Daffodil Place Lodge

Description: Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) Lodges provide a supportive environment for people with cancer and their adult companions.  The Lodge is located near the cancer treatment centre in St. John’s. As a volunteer driver at the Lodge you have an essential role in creating a home away from home for the clients and their families. You have a positive impact on the quality and enhancement of life for people affected by cancer. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING promoting a social and caring atmosphere in the lodge and shuttle van, focusing attention and time on lodge guests; maintain a regular schedule, leaving Lodge 30 minutes prior to each appointment; ensuring clients and guests get to their appointments on time; Helping with mobility aids and getting guests to appointments safely, providing additional assistance if required; Referring any client safety or medical issues to the lodge coordinator or manager, and reporting to the lodge coordinator or manager at the end of shift to ensure all clients have returned; Maintaining communication while off-site by using the driver’s cell phone when it is safe and appropriate to do so – not while driving Ensuring the van is clean and has gas before and after use, and completing the inspection checklist, noting any issues and reporting damage to the lodge manager immediately Following all COVID guidelines as set out by the Lodge WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Friendly and outgoing; comfortable working with a variety of people Experienced driver with a valid class 5 license and a safe driving record with 3 or fewer demerit points and an acceptable driving record Willing to have a criminal records check and regular driver checks completed Physically able to carry out the duties of the role, safely and appropriately Good communication skills with clear voice; compassionate and patient OUR INVESTMENT CCS Volunteer and Support Program orientation and ongoing training Lodge and role specific orientation and ongoing training Ongoing updates and support from Staff Partner in Volunteer Experience Volunteer handbook and modules All vehicles are equipped with plexiglass to ensure a safer environment for both the driver and client YOUR COMMITMENT As this is an important leadership volunteer position, we ask that you dedicate 6 months to this role. CIBC Run for the Cure Volunteer Committee Member - Various positions

Run For Women at Quidi Vidi Lake

You will also receive a grant of up to $500 (or more, depending on your project details) to fund your project.
