We aim to provide innovative programs and cross-sectoral resources to encourage residents in Canada to be civically aware and democratically engaged. Our team is composed of staff, consultants, advisors, and volunteers from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds who dedicate themselves in having Canadians' voices heard and understood. Scope of the responsibilities: Work closely with GLOCAL Research Analysts and supervisors to gather, enter, and analyse data on political representatives at the municipal level. Conduct research and understand the political environment of the province. This includes but is not limited to research on local issues, provincial policy concerns, and regional politics. Provide support in GLOCAL's social media engagement, create infographics, and produce short videos on social causes. Assist in community engagement and outreach at the local level. Successful applicants will have the following qualifications: Good oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. A passion for creative writing, community engagement and partnerships development. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel. Strong intercultural understanding. Ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced, flexible environment. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Professionalism, punctuality, and reliability. The successful candidate will volunteer with the executive team of the Foundation. Ongoing support will be offered to ensure holistic development of the volunteer in capacities relevant to the position. A weekly meeting will be scheduled for the volunteer to receive support and direction, as well as targeted opportunities and guidance for personal growth and development, such as future career planning. We aim to make this a comprehensive learning experience for the volunteers.

National Youth Service Network Program (NYSN): Our new and innovative ONLINE VOLUNTEERING program enables Canadian youth to engage in remote volunteering with 500+ peers nationwide, at their own pace. Empathy Squad *VIRTUAL* Audio Storytelling and Podcasting (Winter 2024)

Description: Gather Oral Histories to Foster Empathy and Build your Podcasting Skills. The Empathy Squad is a hands-on, experiential-service-learning opportunity for diverse youth from across Canada aimed at creating meaningful connections and increasing understanding of one another through public engagement, facilitated conversations, active listening and presentation, aimed at capturing and preserving our country's collective community memory for generations to come.  The Empathy Squad program is made possible by the Canada Service Corps.    As a participant, you will:  ✅ Acquire the knowledge and practical skills needed to produce high-quality audio stories: interviewing and recording techniques, audio-editing, narrative shaping, and sound design;  ✅ Volunteer in service of your community, learn about what’s important to them through active listening and help foster empathy for their lived experiences;  ✅ Experience hands-on learning alongside fellow future leaders and from industry professionals across the country.    Program Expectations:  Have access to strong internet connection and a laptop available on which you can download and install: Slack (Mac OS / Windows OS), Descript (find system requirements here), Google Chrome, Zoom;  Attend scheduled Zoom sessions that consist of live demonstrations, instructional videos and feedback sharing from facilitators, Guest Artists and peers;  Apply learnings by conducting interviews, using audio recording equipment, and completing assignments using audio-editing software, Descript;  Engage with facilitators and peers using program communication platforms (Slack, Zoom, provided Empathy Squad email address);  Commit 10-12 hours a week, including scheduled Zoom sessions and work in your own time.    Application Process and Timeline: Interested volunteer are asked to fill out an application form here: https://www.fixtpoint.com/empathysquad-apply NOTE: Applications for Cohorts 15 & 16 are now closed. Planning Committee Volunteer - BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk in Support of Kids Help Phone

Description: We are currently seeking volunteer committee support for Kids Help Phone’s national fundraising event, BMO Walk so Kids Can Talk, in St. John's. Support youth mental health and well-being in your community and across Canada, by volunteering as an event committee member for Kids Help Phone. About Kids Help Phone Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only free, 24/7, confidential e-mental health service offering support in English and French to young people through phone, text and online resources. Right now, youth in Canada are in crisis. One that affects us all. Help should not be hard to find. Young people can truly thrive when they’re able to express how they’re feeling – and get the support they need without judgment. At Kids Help Phone, we are grateful to our committed and courageous volunteers, who are essential to achieving our mission - ensuring every young person has the support they need, in the way they need it most.    Why Join an Event Planning Committee Volunteering your time to support the fundraising efforts of Kids Help Phone is both rewarding and creates a lasting impact on youth mental health across all of our communities.   If you’re interested in any of the following roles, our event committee may be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.   Event Committee Member Roles: Committee Chair: Are you a natural leader and motivator? Help oversee the committee to ensure the success of the event in all capacities.   Secretary: Attention to detail and organization are the key to keeping everyone on task and creating the best event experience for all event day participants, sponsors and volunteers.   Volunteer Lead: Help recruit and train the event day volunteers, to ensure they are set up for success.   Logistics Lead: Working alongside Kids Help Phone staff, this role will ensure all site logistics are in place and ready to go, this may include necessities such as tents, tables, stage, supplies, route markers, etc. Walk Route Lead: Identify the best walking route, while considering safety and ease of access. You will need to trouble shoot and address any route challenges that may occur, while ensuring all applicable permits and codes are attained and followed (along with the support of Kids Help Phone staff). Food & Beverage Lead: Organize onsite food and beverage distribution at the event and ensure all health and safety permits, codes and licenses are attained and followed. (I.e. Covid protocols). Sponsorship and Recognition Lead: Raising funds for Kids Help Phone’s 24/7 e-mental health services is the overall goal of our fundraising events. Help us stay open and accessible by leading the committee in sponsorship and participant recruitment efforts. Help to ensure our participants and sponsors feel supported and appreciated the whole way through, by staying connected with them, providing tips and celebrating their successes. Promotion and Recruitment Lead: Spread the word! Share details about the event by posting on community websites, social media pages, contributing to community partners and sponsors intranets or internal newsletters, working with local influencers and sourcing local media support.  Don’t forget about word of mouth!   Youth Representative: Creating a meaningful event for our youth audience is essential. As a youth facing organization, the Youth Representative will bring the perspective we need, in order to ensure everyone is represented in our event planning and execution efforts.
