We are currently the only organization providing these services in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is the NLBIA’s goal to ensure that everyone knows there is someone to call.  Someone to help with the paperwork or navigate the medical jargon that comes with a long hospital stay.  NLBIA is a source of referral, support, assistance, education, advocacy and caring.  Whatever the question might be, NLBIA will find the answer or find someone who can. Individuals can self-refer or refer a friend, family member or client. We also have services for long term brain injury survivors and family. In addition to having a part-time experienced social work counselor on hand to assist survivors and family during times of crisis, the NLBIA also provides ongoing supports and programs. In the past, NLBIA has co-funded the popular NeuroFIT program designed to bring professional one on one physical fitness training to those with moderate to severe neurological disabilities in a public gym environment. The NLBIA also provides a link to training for the medical community on brain injury so that the province will stay current in their practice. The NLBIA offers the weekly ABLE recreation program for those with severe brain injury and have piloted a successful Subsidized Counseling Program addressing more complex mental health needs. NLBIA also works closely with other community partners to bring the general public safety education and changes to disability public policy. Fundraising is essential to growing and expanding these programs for access throughout the province.  Please consider the potential to increase the quality of life of so many individuals and the ease this will have on the economic burden injury causes to the public wallet.  Feel free to contact with any questions and thank you in advance for your consideration of donating your time to our cause. East Coast Music Awards

Organization: East Coast Music Association
Category: Special Events / Festivals
Description: From humble beginnings many years ago in a Halifax bar, the East Coast Music Awards: Festival and Conference has grown from a one-day $1,000 event to a five-day international gathering, with a budget exceeding $1.6 million. At the same time, it has become the premier event of its kind in Atlantic Canada, attracting millions of dollars in economic spin offs. It has become one of the top music industry events in Canada, on par with the JUNOS and the Canadian Country Music Awards. By inviting members of the international music industry to attend the ECMAs, the East Coast Music Association (ECMA) has marketed Atlantic Canadian music to the world. Artists like the Irish Descendants, the Fables, Natalie McMaster, Sloan, the Rankins, Great Big Sea, Ennis Sisters, Bruce Guthro, Vishten, Ashley MacIsaac, the Barra MacNeils, Gordie Sampson, Madison Violet, Bette & Wallet, Mark Bragg, Joel Plaskett, Matt Mays, the Trews, Jill Barber, Nathan Wiley, the Chucky Danger Band (now Paper Lions), and Sarah McLachlan have launched thriving careers that were given a significant boost by the ECMA. With the growth of its annual event, the association faces the challenge of meeting music industry expectations, while still honouring the vision of the host communities. The focus of the ECMA – to promote and foster the careers of East Coast artists – remains constant against a backdrop of rapid change within the international music marketplace.
